2021-05-12cdhash_cmp: can also take complex卜部昌平
There are complex literals `123i`, which can also be a case condition. Notes: Merged: https://github.com/ruby/ruby/pull/4469
2021-05-12cdhash_cmp: can take rational literals卜部昌平
Rational literals are those integers suffixed with `r`. They tend to be a part of more complex expressions like `123/456r`, but in theory they can live alone. When such "bare" rational literals are passed to case-when branch, we have to take care of them. Fixes [Bug #17854] Notes: Merged: https://github.com/ruby/ruby/pull/4469
2021-05-11Revert "Filling cache values on cvar write"Aaron Patterson
This reverts commit 08de37f9fa3469365e6b5c964689ae2bae0eb9f3. This reverts commit e8ae922b62adb00a80d3d4c49f7d7b0e6026eaba.
2021-05-11Add a cache for class variableseileencodes
This change implements a cache for class variables. Previously there was no cache for cvars. Cvar access is slow due to needing to travel all the way up th ancestor tree before returning the cvar value. The deeper the ancestor tree the slower cvar access will be. The benefits of the cache are more visible with a higher number of included modules due to the way Ruby looks up class variables. The benchmark here includes 26 modules and shows with the cache, this branch is 6.5x faster when accessing class variables. ``` compare-ruby: ruby 3.1.0dev (2021-03-15T06:22:34Z master 9e5105ca45) [x86_64-darwin19] built-ruby: ruby 3.1.0dev (2021-03-15T12:12:44Z add-cache-for-clas.. c6be0093ae) [x86_64-darwin19] | |compare-ruby|built-ruby| |:--------|-----------:|---------:| |vm_cvar | 5.681M| 36.980M| | | -| 6.51x| ``` Benchmark.ips calling `ActiveRecord::Base.logger` from within a Rails application. ActiveRecord::Base.logger has 71 ancestors. The more ancestors a tree has, the more clear the speed increase. IE if Base had only one ancestor we'd see no improvement. This benchmark is run on a vanilla Rails application. Benchmark code: ```ruby require "benchmark/ips" require_relative "config/environment" Benchmark.ips do |x| x.report "logger" do ActiveRecord::Base.logger end end ``` Ruby 3.0 master / Rails 6.1: ``` Warming up -------------------------------------- logger 155.251k i/100ms Calculating ------------------------------------- ``` Ruby 3.0 with cvar cache / Rails 6.1: ``` Warming up -------------------------------------- logger 1.546M i/100ms Calculating ------------------------------------- logger 14.857M (± 4.8%) i/s - 74.198M in 5.006202s ``` Lastly we ran a benchmark to demonstate the difference between master and our cache when the number of modules increases. This benchmark measures 1 ancestor, 30 ancestors, and 100 ancestors. 2021-04-26node.c (rb_ast_new): imemo_ast is WB-unprotectedYusuke Endoh
Previously imemo_ast was handled as WB-protected which caused a segfault of the following code: # shareable_constant_value: literal M0 = {} M1 = {} ... M100000 = {} My analysis is here: `shareable_constant_value: literal` creates many Hash instances during parsing, and add them to node_buffer of imemo_ast. However, the contents are missed because imemo_ast is incorrectly WB-protected. This changeset makes imemo_ast as WB-unprotected. Notes: Merged: https://github.com/ruby/ruby/pull/4416

2021-01-05enable constant cache on ractorsKoichi Sasada
constant cache `IC` is accessed by non-atomic manner and there are thread-safety issues, so Ruby 3.0 disables to use const cache on non-main ractors. This patch enables it by introducing `imemo_constcache` and allocates it by every re-fill of const cache like `imemo_callcache`. [Bug #17510] Now `IC` only has one entry `IC::entry` and it points to `iseq_inline_constant_cache_entry`, managed by T_IMEMO object. `IC` is atomic data structure so `rb_mjit_before_vm_ic_update()` and `rb_mjit_after_vm_ic_update()` is not needed. 2020-12-18Switch rb_category_warn{,ing} to accept an rb_warning_category_tJeremy Evans
Since we decided to only allowing specific warning categories, there is no reason to have an API that accepts a general string, as it is more error-prone. Switch to only allowing the specific warning categories. As rb_category_warn{,ing} are public API, this requires making rb_warning_category_t public API as well. 2020-11-09eagerly initialize ivar table when index is small enoughAaron Patterson
When the inline cache is written, the iv table will contain an entry for the instance variable. If we get an inline cache hit, then we know the iv table must contain a value for the index written to the inline cache. If the index in the inline cache is larger than the list on the object, but *smaller* than the iv index table on the class, then we can just eagerly allocate the iv list to be the same size as the iv index table. This avoids duplicate work of checking frozen as well as looking up the index for the particular instance variable name. Notes: Merged: https://github.com/ruby/ruby/pull/3740

2020-10-21Ractor.make_shareable(obj)Koichi Sasada
Introduce new method Ractor.make_shareable(obj) which tries to make obj shareable object. Protocol is here. (1) If obj is shareable, it is shareable. (2) If obj is not a shareable object and if obj can be shareable object if it is frozen, then freeze obj. If obj has reachable objects (rs), do rs.each{|o| Ractor.make_shareable(o)} recursively (recursion is not Ruby-level, but C-level). (3) Otherwise, raise Ractor::Error. Now T_DATA is not a shareable object even if the object is frozen. If the method finished without error, given obj is marked as a sharable object. To allow makng a shareable frozen T_DATA object, then set `RUBY_TYPED_FROZEN_SHAREABLE` as type->flags. On default, this flag is not set. It means user defined T_DATA objects are not allowed to become shareable objects when it is frozen. You can make any object shareable by setting FL_SHAREABLE flag, so if you know that the T_DATA object is shareable (== thread-safe), set this flag, at creation time for example. `Ractor` object is one example, which is not a frozen, but a shareable object. IVC points to this entry so that cache update becomes atomically. Notes: Merged: https://github.com/ruby/ruby/pull/3662
